State Pas and BN leaders confident new cabinet capable of transforming the country

KOTA BARU: State Pas leaders yesterday expressed hope that the new cabinet will bring changes in the working relationship between the state and federal government and give similar priority to states under Pakatan Rakyat.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, in welcoming the new cabinet, said it was the prerogative of the prime minister to appoint whoever he deemed fit to be in the cabinet.

He said he appreciated Datuk Seri Najib Razak's statement that the new cabinet was a transformation cabinet and hoped that it would not involve only in the changing old faces with new ones but more importantly, transforming attitudes and mentality.

“I hope the new cabinet will bring changes in the co-operation between the state and federal government in line with the spirit of the federalism,” he said.

PAS assistant secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said he saw that there was a transformation in the cabinet appointment with the inclusion of new faces.

"As a member of parliament, I hope that the Datuk Seri Najib's vision of becoming a prime minister to all races irrespective of their political ideologies will be realised.

“The three states under Pakatan Rakyat should be given the same priority in terms of development and financial allocation in line with the federal constitution," he said.

Meanwhile, state Barisan Nasional secretary Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad said the line-up was a good mix of new faces, women and experienced politicians representing the change that was being made by the prime minister.

"I also welcome the increased number of ministers from Sabah and Sarawak as voters in both states have given their trust in BN's candidates. I support the move that the states which BN won big must be amply rewarded and vice-versa," he said.

Md Alwi said the prime minister had made his choice and party members must support him and work hard to achieve bigger majority in the next general election.

State Umno Youth chief Anuar Safian described the line-up as a cabinet for the future which would help push Najib’s transformation agenda. He said the mix of new and old faces and the experienced was the best for the country.

Anuar also thanked Najib for giving umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar a chance to helm the Youth and Sports Ministry and former Youth leader Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan as Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister.
