Cabinet ministers get morale boost from PM

PUTRAJAYA -- The new Malaysian Cabinet members get a morale boost from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at their first Cabinet meeting today.

During the two-hour meeting, Najib also called on them to do their level best in charging their duties and responsibilities to ensure success of the national transformation agenda.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Rahman Dahlan said Najib also asked them to serve all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion.

"He wants us to remember that we are ministers for all races and that we should not focus only on our constituencies," he said.

The Kota Belud member of Parliament said the prime minister also called on all Cabinet members to add value to their work.

Meanwhile, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said Najib clearly expected a high level of commitment from his Cabinet to help him turn the country into a fully-developed nation by 2020.

"It is his hope that we work with him towards achieving Vision 2020. No more holidays, we must work for the people's wellbeing," he said.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, who is also a new face in Najib's Cabinet, said he would prove his ability by introducing several improvements in the ministry soon.

"I will do my best to make some improvements. We have been asked to do our best to serve the interest of the people," he said.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kwan said he would use his expertise and experience as former president of Transparency International Malaysia to strengthen integrity and eradicate corruption.

"Since I came from Transparency International Malaysia, my interest is on the transformation to improve governance, integrity and, of course, to eradicate corruption," he said. -- Bernama
