In renewed bid to win state, Najib pitches three new projects for Selangor

Najib pledged a new hospital, market and district police headquarters for the people near Kapar.

KLANG, May 3 — With less than 48 hours to go before Election 2013, Datuk Seri Najib Razak pledged today a new hospital, market and district police headquarters for the people near Kapar here.

The three new projects are meant to supplement the manifesto launched by Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) last month, as the coalition seeks to take back Malaysia’s richest state from Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“Five years is enough, because Selangor is so important to achieve our nation’s transformational agenda ... I hope you will give a mighty support to BN,” Najib said at a BN event in Bukit Raja here.

According to the BN chairman, the new hospital will be built on a land supplied by property developer Sime Darby Bhd. The new markets will be build in Kapar and Meru towns.

Earlier, Najib launched the first phase of the 2,090 units of 1Malaysia People’s Housing Project (PR1MA) in front of some 5,000 people from nearby constituencies.

He also announced a RM20,000 discount for units in the first phase, on behalf of Sime Darby.

Last month, Najib had already announced two additional pledges for Selangor, which include reviewing the rate for change in use of agriculture land to industry for small and medium enterprises (SME) since the current rate imposed by the existing state government was allegedly high.

Apart from that, BN would also build new roads in SME industrial areas in Sungai Buloh in view of the fact that the main road in the second biggest area in the country was no longer suitable.

On April 17, Najib launched the Selangor BN manifesto which outlined seven core thrusts and 56 pledges which focused on easing the burden of the people and improving their quality of life.

The BN, among other things, promises to create a new corridor, the Selangor Global Logistic Hub, stretching from Port Klang to Kota Raja and the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang which aimed at attracting foreign investment and generating 560,000 job opportunities for the people of Selangor.

The seven thrusts in the manifesto are namely, brighter future; more concern and caring community; safer and more prosperous quality of life; more affordable housing, more innovative and competitive Selangor; more progressive Selangor; and more environmentally-friendly and cleaner Selangor.

In return, PR had upped the ante in the Selangor race by vowing to make its citizens shareholders of the state’s water industry as part of its Election 2013 manifesto.

The pledge was one of the 17 offered in the pact’s Selangor manifesto which also included promises to provide cheap housing, better education and one that attracted a rousing response – RM500 cash aid for couples getting married for the first time.
