KLANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak promised Indians that he will take the community to greater heights if Barisan Nasional wins the polls.

Speaking to thousands of Indians gathered at the Chetty Field here, Najib appealed for support to ensure the ruling coalition's victory.

"This is my first election as Prime Minister and leader of BN.

"I am making a personal appeal to the Indian community for a mandate," Najib told a cheering crowd.

Najib's visit was part of the programme at the day-long Indian Community Industrial Carnival which was jointly organised by the Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Tekun.

Najib added that a vote for him and Barisan would ensure a bright future for the community.

"With your strong mandate, I will not disappoint you and will bring you to greater heights," said Najib.

Earlier in his speech Najib told the crowd that Malaysians would be deciding whom they will be choosing to lead the country.

He said the Barisan government had done much for the Indian community as opposed to Pakatan Rakyat.

Najib explained to the crowd the allocations made by the government to help Indian-owned small businesses.

He also reminded the crowd about Pakatan's transgression against the Indian community such as the recent demolition of a home Hindu shrine in Sepang.

"Are we going to tolerate this?" asked Najib.

He added Barisan too had made mistakes, but he had asked for the community's forgiveness on behalf of the ruling coalition.

Najib also asked the crowd whether they had nambikai (trust) in him or Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to bring the country and the Indian community to a better position the next five years.

This was greeted with a thunderous 'Najib' from the crowd.

"You have given a clear answer," said Najib, adding he hoped the big turnout for the event was reflective of the community's decision as to whom they wanted to lead the country.

An estimated 20,000 people attended the event.
