KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The MIC today lauded Datuk Seri Mohd
Najib Tun Razak's decision to appoint Hindu Rights Action Force
(Hindraf)'s chairman P.Waythamoorthy as a deputy minister, saying that
the prime minister was giving higher priority to the Indian community.
"Waytha had previously made extremely negative accusation at the PM and
Barisan Nasional, but the very fact that the PM is willing to set aside
all this shows that the PM puts the development of the Indian community
above his own feelings," MIC strategic director S.Vell Paari said in a
statement.
He said that it was a testimony that Najib was committed in his promise
to uplift the socio-economic standard of the Indian Community.
Yesterday, the prime minister announced the post-election cabinet
line-up that includes two ministers and four deputy ministers from the
Indian community.
Besides MIC president Datuk Seri G.Palanivel who was appointed National
Resources and Environment Minister and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr
S.Subramaniam as Health Minster, four others were appointed deputy
ministers -- Datuk M.Saravanan (Youth and Sports), P.Kamalanathan
(Education), Datuk Dr J.Loga Bala Mohan (Federal Territories) and
P.Wyathamoorthy (Prime Minister's Department).
"As far as I am concerned, the more Indians holding government posts,
the merrier," said Vell Paari, adding that MIC must restructure and
revamp the party in terms of ideology, policy and approach to remain
relevant to all Malaysians.

Seri G. Palanivel is confident the government will continue with its
programmes to improve the socio-economy of the Indian community.

“A vote for the BN team is a vote for me and vote for me is the vision for the Indian community and for the country.

Indian Community Has To Appreciate Najib's Direct Approach To Solve Their Woes
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- Since taking office as Malaysia's sixth
prime minister in 2009, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's personal approach
in reaching out to the Indian community has to be taken as a serious
indicator to evaluate and appreciate his sincerity.
Najib's proactive ways to win the "hearts and minds" of the Indian community with his continuous visits to the ground and frequent walkabouts to meet the people at the grassroots, shows the government is very serious now than before, after the community expressed their dissatisfaction and frustration with the Barisan nasional (BN) government through the ballot papers in the last general election in 2008.
Najib had openly admitted that the BN government had made mistakes in the past and promised to work hard from the lessons learnt when attending the national-level Deepavali celebrations at SMK Kampung Jawa in Klang in November 2011.
His pledge not to take Indians' support for granted was proven by his initiative to form a Special Task Force for Indian Affairs to address the community's problems and issues such as welfare aid, jobs and citizenship.
Realising the importance of understanding Indians' culture and needs better, Najib started to attend more cultural programmes such as "Ponggal" (Indians' Harvest Festival) celebrations for three years continuously since 2011 in Kapar, Merdeka Square and Klang.

Najib's Sincere, Genuine Intention To Help Indians Is Why Hindraf Decided To Support BN - Waythamoorthy
SHAH ALAM, May 2 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun
Razak's sincere and genuine intention to help the Indian community is
why the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) decided to support Barisan
Nasional (BN) in the 13th General Election (GE13).
Hindraf chairman P. Waythamoorthy said Najib's actions were in contrast to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) which is not serious or genuine in trying to help solve problems faced by the marginalised Indian community.
"Yes, it is true that we (Hindraf) opposed BN in the past, but since Najib took over as the Prime Minister, he has shown a positive approach in trying to solve problems faced by the Indian community. He had openly apologised for BN's mistakes in the past.
"To us, the BN was ready to accept our demands but PR was not. In fact, there were a number of aspects that were added on by Najib in the list of requests from Hindraf. That is an endorsement to the Indian community," he said during a Hello Malaysia programme (Tamil version) on Bernama TV.
The programme will be aired on Astro Channel 502 by Bernama TV from 2pm to 3pm tomorrow (Friday) and a repeat of the programme will be aired on Saturday from 10.30pm to 11.30pm.

Waytha: Pakatan betrayed Indians

GEORGE TOWN: Hindraf today hit out at Pakatan Rakyat for betraying Indians after riding on the ‘Makkal Sakti’ (people’s power) wave to score unprecedented electoral success in the 2008 general election.
Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (Hindraf) leader, P Waythamoorthy, said that Pakatan leaders like Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng chanted ‘Makkal Sakti’ everywhere to woo Indian votes in 2008, only to turn their backs on the community.
He blasted Anwar and company for being cold, insensitive and unresponsive to the plight of the marginalised segment of the Indian community for the past five years, culminating in their arrogant rebuff of the movement’s blueprint.
“Pakatan leaders gave Hindraf a run around before dumping the blueprint. On stage they perform a multi racial political stunt. In reality, they look down on Indians. They only want Indian votes, not their problems,” said Waythamoorthy.
He also hit out against Pakatan state governments for alienating the marginalised segment of the community by demolishing their settlements, burial grounds and religious places in Kedah, Penang and Selangor.
He said that the PKR-led Selangor government had demolished many Hindu temples and settlements over the years.
The ruthless demolition of Kampung Buah Pala in Penang, said Waythamoorthy, was the first sign of Pakatan’s intention of using Indians for piggy-back rides to power before dumping them.
Even though the previous BN government started the condominium project plan, he said Lim’s Penang government could have still saved the village by a stroke of a pen by invoking Section 76 of the National Land Code (NLC) and Section 3 of the Land Acquisition Act (LAA).
“But Lim’s government chose not to do, giving lame excuses. He was directly responsible for the village demolition,” said Waythamoorthy.
Tekun Provides The Lifeline For Indian Entrepreneurs
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- M.Jayaseelan had been working as a goldsmith
at a Chinese company since 1989, and his dream of venturing on his own
had been hindered because of the lack of capital.
Yet all that changed four months ago when he sought a loan from the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional) to purchase new jewellery making tools and equipment to set off on his own.
"I saw an advertisement of the Special Secretariat for the Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs (SEED). I applied through the Indian Entrepreneur Development Scheme (SPUMI) and my loan was approved," said the proud owner of Kamalam Gems and Jewels to Bernama.
Jayaseelan, like the thousands of Indians in the country face an uphill task in starting or expanding business as the avenues to raise capital is extremely limited.
This is where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak stepped in with funds RM180 million, dedicated to Indian traders and businessmen through various organisations.

P. Kamalanathan lauds Najib for giving recognition to Hindraf
KUALA LUMPUR: Hulu Selangor Parliamentary candidate,
P.Kamalanathan lauded the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for
giving recognition to The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf).
"The chairman of Hindraf, Waytha Moorthy, had gone over to Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim 26 times in order to discuss their blueprints, and no recognition was given, let alone a discussion.
"One day before Waytha Moorthy was scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, Anwar had called him over, and despite Waytha's effort to be hopefully present for the promised meeting, Anwar was not present," he said during a visit to an MIC operations room in Batang Kali.
Kamalanathan said that Waytha had not expressed any ill intentions.
"All he had asked for, was for the betterment of the indian community and was rightfully deserving of an opportunity to put forward his ideas," he added.
Kamalanathan shared that,Pakatan Rakyat, had once used the "Makkal Sakti" (People power) tagline to campaign during the 2008 elections, in order to appeal to the indian community.
"Taking that into consideration, now choosing not to recognise Hindraf and neglecting their needs and intentions seems like an act of unfairness,"
Recently,a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Hindraf and Barisan Nasional was signed to make right all previous shortcomings in addressing the plight of marginalised Malaysians, including the poor among the Indian community.
The MoU which was signed by Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on behalf of BN while Waytha Moorthy represented his organisation was witnessed by the Prime Minister.
The memorandum was described as a smart partnership between BN and Hindraf, the MoU aims to bring poor Indians into the mainstream of the country's development.

Waytha gives full backing to Najib, BN
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional and Hindraf today signed a memorandum
of understanding (MoU) for the uplifting of the Malaysian Indian
community.
The event at Vivekananda Tamil School in Brickfields here was attended by the BN chairman and prime minister Najib Tun Razak, Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy, several top MIC leaders and a throng of orange-clad Hindraf supporters.
Speaking during the event, Waythamoorthy urged Indians to return BN its two-thirds majority in the upcoming general election on May 5.
He insisted that their welfare will only be cared for by the ruling coalition BN and not Pakatan Rakyat.
“They (Pakatan) told me there would be a meeting but none of the leaders showed up,” Waythamoorthy told the crowd here.
“Even up until a few days ago, I was begging them. I thought of them as my friends,” he added.
Waythamoorthy acknowledged that there was skepticism over the agreement with BN but hoped Najib would dispel these criticisms by implementing the blueprint for the 1.5 million Indians that stand to benefit from the deal.
“I hope the prime minister will prove them all wrong,” he said.
Hindraf’s blueprint, among others, highlights issues related to displaced Indian plantation workers, the need for tertiary-level education for Indian students, job opportunities in the government sector, financial loans to Indian entrepreneurs, and the establishment of a Minorities Affairs Ministry.

‘Najib has solutions for Indians’
KUALA LUMPUR: BARISAN Nasional is the Indian community's
solution. Indians in the country recognise that the BN government has
been executing tangible actions and sound policies to uplift their
community.
MIC vice-president Datuk S.K. Devamany said Indians in the country had over the past few years been closely evaluating programmes implemented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration and concluded that Pakatan Rakyat paled in comparison.
"They see BN's clear direction. Najib understands and recognises the weaknesses and problems of the Indian community, and has been addressing them."
He said while the BN government had been addressing issues like their religious needs, loans for businesses and educational opportunities, the same couldn't be said about the opposition.
"In comparison, what has the opposition done in their respective states? Selangor does not want to provide land for us to build Tamil schools while Penang gives a few thousand ringgit here and there for Tamil schools.
"The BN government, on the other hand, gave RM560 million for the development of Tamil schools in the country."
Indian Athma Sakthi Association president and founder M. Vasantha Kumar said Indians had not only been neglected by Pakatan but its leaders who had voiced out for the community had also been "killed" politically.
"Look what happened to DAP's Professor Dr P. Ramasamy and Parti Keadilan Rakyat's S. Manika- vasagam. Those who champion the Indians are not allowed to grow.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has
expressed his gratitude to the Telugu community for their continued
trust in the government.
In his Ugadhi or Telugu New Year message, the prime minister said the trust had helped to uplift the quality of life and preserve the culture of the Telugu community in Malaysia.
"On the occasion of the Telugu New Year, or Ugadhi, it gives me great privilege to call upon all Malaysians to join me in greeting our Telugu friends 'Ugadhi Subhakanshalu'.
"In the spirit of 1Malaysia, let us continue to join hands and work towards bringing real transformation for the community and for our country," he said in a statement Wednesday.
Najib also called upon the community to continue working together with the government towards bringing real transformation for them and also for the country.
Ugadhi is celebrated tomorrow.
There are about 300,000 Telugus, who trace their origin to India's Andhra Pradesh state, in Malaysia.
In a similar message, MIC president Datuk Seri G.Palanivel expressed hope that the Telugu community would remain united to face the many challenges ahead.
Noting that Ugadhi was a major celebration in that community, he said it was a time for families to come together to mark a new beginning.
"The start of the new year means setting new goals, new energy and new spirit to ensure the Indian community's survival and future," he said.
Wishing 'Ugadi Subhakanshalu' to all Malaysian Telugus, he said that Malaysia was blessed to have a multi-religious and multi-cultural society which had learned to respect the expression and practice of all religions.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam in a similar message said tolerance and acceptance must be made part of life in multi-racial Malaysia.
"The government understands the needs of the Indian community, including the Telugus," he said.

Indian Community Must Continue To Place Trust In Najib - Leaders
KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Indian community should
continuously place its trust, confidence and hope in Datuk Seri Najib
Tun Razak as the prime minister is a dedicated leader who puts the needs
of the community first.
Political leaders said that Najib, who took over the reins in 2009, had never neglected the community in all his transformation agenda, and had helped solve many longstanding problems faced by the community, such as personal identity documents, education and job opportunities in the government sector.
MIC secretary-general Datuk S. Murugesan said the prime minister had kept his promise to give Indians a fair deal in uplifting the community by laying the foundation in all aspects of political, economic and administrative transformation.
"The word, 'nambikei', means both trustworthiness and hope. Until today, the PM (prime minister) has not disappointed the Indian community, and has introduced various measures and initiatives to look into problems and ease the burden faced by the Indian community.
"Therefore, the community should strengthen the support and give a strong mandate to the PM and Barisan Nasional in the coming general election," he told Bernama when asked to comment on Najib's appeal to the Indian community to place their 'nambikei' in BN to aspire for a better future for themselves.
The prime minister spoke in a special interview for the Tamil edition of the 'Hello, Malaysia' programme of BernamaTV over Astro Channel 502. The interview was conducted by Bernama journalists K. Ghandi and Michael Savarimuthu.
Echoing similarly, Federal Territory People's Progressive Party information chief Datuk A. Chandrakumanan said the Indian community had benefited much under Najib's leadership, such as increased allocations for Tamil schools, matriculation seats, offering loan schemes to buy taxis and re-issuing scrap metal dealer licences.
"When PM Najib makes a promise to the Indian community, it will be brought to the mainstream. He keeps his word as the leader is well-aware that the community will help to empower the government to continuously bring growth and progress to the nation," he said.
Since 2008, among others, under the prime minister s leadership, the federal government had given out about RM540 million to Tamil schools and RM150 million in micro-credit loans to young Indian entrepreneurs under the Young Indian Entrepreneurs Development Scheme (SPUMI).
"Today, the community can see how much the PM has solved and transformed its needs. Therefore, if the community continues to give him the mandate, then the PM can lead the nation towards a better future," he noted.
Gerakan vice-president Senator A. Kohilan Pillay said the people who liked Najib's style and leadership must give sold support if they wanted him to bring more prosperity to the nation, through his various transformation initiatives.
"The people should understand that every candidate will be contesting under BN's banner. If BN receives a strong mandate from the people in the 13th General Election, then it enables the PM to carry out greater achievements for the people and the nation," he said.

Indians can become kingmakers in GE13, says Najib
Indians, he said, had a big role to play because their percentage as voters in most constituencies could be the determining factor.
“We saw Barisan Nasional's dismal performance in 2008 and among the factors was the Indian community's reduced support. But I believe this situation has been reversed.
“We have done studies there is the reality factor and the emotion factor. We (now) see that the Indian community has more confidence in Barisan,” he said in a special interview in the Tamil edition of BernamaTV's Hello Malaysia programme last night.

Help us win S’gor, Najib tells Indians
KLANG: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak today pledged to establish a ‘Little India’ in Klang and permit Hindu altars in private residentials should Indians help Barisan Nasional to recapture Selangor in the upcoming polls.
Rolling out a string of goodies at a MIC-organised rally in Meru today, Najib also took a swipe at the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government for allegedly demolishing seven Hindu temples in their five-year rule.
“The difference between Pakatan and BN is, we gave huge allocations to the Hindu houses of worship, whereas they had destructed seven temples, including an altar built in a private house in Sepang.
“We would like to ask them, under what reason and authority do they have to demolish a private altar?” he asked, in reference to the demolition done by Sepang Municipal Council last November.
