He advised voters to make the right choice in the coming general election “in the interest of the nation's future”.

A media statement said the PB1M would sell retail goods, controlled items, products of local small and medium entrepreneurs and pre-packed fresh goods at competitive prices.

Najib: GE13 will be first social media polls

KUALA LUMPUR: The coming general election will be Malaysia's first “social media election”, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said that this was because politicians were already using social media to engage with people online.

“Of course, it will not be the biggest factor in the elections, but it is certainly increasing the tempo of political debate,” he said after launching the Malaysia Social Media Week 2013 summit.

As an avid social media user himself, Najib was given a special Leadership in Social Media Engagement Award at the event organised by the Malaysia Social Media Chambers.

Speakers included Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Tune Talk CEO Jason Lo and television host Aishah Sinclair.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said social media had encouraged greater openness.

“With social media, everyone has a voice, and can broadcast it to the world.

“It allows people to reach across traditional boundaries and barriers, to engage in real discussion, in real time,” he said.

Najib also posted his first Instagram picture of the audience which he took using his iPad on his newly set-up Instagram account @najib_razak.

He said the Government had put in a lot of effort to ensure every Malaysian had access to social media.

Najib announces RM28m handout for farmers, breeders

Najib (centre) arrives for a meet-the-people session with farmers and breeders in Sabak Bernam, February 26, 2012.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced an allocation of RM28 million as a one-off contribution to assist small-scale farmers and breeders in the country.

The good news was announced by the prime minister in conjunction with the launching of the Menara LPP and 40th anniversary celebration of the agency, here today.

The allocation was an immediate response from Najib to meet the request of the small-scale farmers and breeders who were previously described as lagging behind compared to the large-scale farmers and fishermen who had received aid as announced by the government.

The government had previously announced the granting of aid to the fishermen including the cost of living assistance of RM200 per month which benefited 55,000 registered fishermen.

In assisting the large-scale farmers, the government continued the granting of existing subsidy and incentive amounting to RM2.4 billion, besides introducing for the first time the Padi Takaful Insurance Scheme.

Indians to be given 10% of 92,000 places in polytechnics

PORT DICKSON: Indian students will be given 10% of the 92,000 places in polytechnics nationwide in stages, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Indians make up 3.8% or 3,547 of total enrolment now.

“Meritocracy, eligibility and competitiveness are aspects that need to be considered in allowing students to pursue higher education.

“But we must uphold social justice by allowing students, particularly those from poor households, who do not meet the entry requirements to be offered a place,” he said at the launch of “Changing the Destiny of Malaysian Indian Youths” at Port Dickson Polytechnic here.

Najib said many students who lived in estates were unable to pursue their higher education due to poverty and lack of access to quality education.

“So, from this year onwards, we will reserve 1,600 places for Indian youths who do not do so well in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia to pursue pre-diploma courses at 20 polytechnics nationwide.

“If they are able to successfully complete the programme, they will be allowed to continue with their diploma and later, degree programmes at institutions of higher education,” he said, adding that they would also be given an allowance of RM250 every month.

Najib said the first batch of 41 Indian students started their courses at the PD Polytechnic in January.

Indian students only need to have three credits in SPM and the combined income of their parents must be below RM3,000 to be eligible.

“I have approved an allocation of RM2mil for this programme,'' he said.

Najib reveals own melon project earning RM500,000 a year

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak revealed his farming “credentials” and cited the success of his personal rock melon project to bring home the importance of innovation in agriculture.

Speaking at the launch of the Farmers' Organisation Authority of Malaysia (LPP) tower office block, Najib said a 2.4ha rock melon plot at his official residence Seri Perdana in Putrajaya has been raking in RM500,000 in profit annually.

The Prime Minister told an audience of more than 2,000 LPPM staff and farmers that he started his farming project after learning of a method of planting where liquid fertiliser is drip-fed to plants.

“Seri Perdana has become a rock melon production site after I asked a certain party to carry out the project, which is now giving profits of half a million ringgit a year,” said Najib, drawing laughter and applause from the audience yesterday.

He said his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor donated the proceeds from the plot to charity, while his aide later said that the project was started in 2010.

Najib used the example in his speech to underscore the importance of finding new methods to increase productivity and raise the income levels of farmers.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A vote for PKR will destroy the aqidah while a vote for PAS will only result in disunity among Muslims, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says.

“As for DAP, a vote for them will see Islam being oppressed.

“A vote for Barisan Nasional will mean voting for a far better future for you, the future generation and the country,” he said when launching the Terengganu-level Jelajah Janji Ditepati (Promises Fulfilled) programme.

Najib said the rakyat should vote for Barisan if they wanted Islam and the ummah to remain strong as this would not happen if Pakatan Rakyat came into power.

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he had yet to call for the general election because he wants to prove to the rakyat that the policies introduced by his government over the past four years has impacted positively on them.

The Prime Minister said this was important because the rakyat needs to judge the performance of his government, particularly since he assumed the premiership some four years ago.

"A few days ago it was reported that the country registered a phenomenal growth of 6.4% in the last quarter of 2012.

"We have been registering impressive growth at a time when our neighbours Singapore recorded 1.5%, the United States between 1% and 2%, Europe 0.5% to 1% and some nations at -3% to -4%," he said at the launch of the construction of 5,000 units of the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) project and the redevelopment of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu station here on Sunday.

Job fair 'the most successful'

LARGE TURNOUT: 20,000 people throng booths set up by 80 companies to look for better job opportunities.

KUALA TERENGGANU: WITH more than 20,000 visitors at its two-day programme here alone, the BN Youth Job Fair '13 is proving to be most successful one-stop carnival for job seekers in the country.

"It is a successful programme as youth can apply for jobs that are available at the carnival," said Najib who launched the job fair in conjunction with the "Jelajah Janji Ditepati" programme at Dataran Shahbandar here.

BN Youth Job Fair chairman Nazir Hussin Akhtar Husin said the large number of visitors was because of the participation of 80 companies, including corporations such as UMW Holdings Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd and My E.G. Services Bhd.

He said more than 4,000 jobs were offered at the inaugural job fair in the state, where various government agencies had also set up booths.

6.4% economic growth last quarter

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's economy recorded a spectacular performance in the last quarter of 2012, growing 6.4%.

This is the highest quarterly growth since two and a half years ago and was buoyed by robust manufacturing and construction sectors.

It supported the overall economic growth for 2012 that expanded to 5.6% compared to 5.1% in 2011.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast that the growth of the fourth quarter would accelerate to 5.5% from 5.2% in the previous three-month period, and forecast a full-year growth at 5.3%.

All sectors registered positive growth with the services, manufacturing and construction sectors continuing to be the key drivers in the supply side.

Many experts believed that the Economic Transformation Programme, with its multi-billion projects, had to a great extent supported the growth in the construction sector that carried spill-over effects onto other sectors.

Bank Negara Malaysia said total investment remained robust and was the main driver of growth during the quarter.

People's Confidence Enables Barisan Nasional To Bring Progress - Najib

MIRI, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The real changes and progress taking place in Malaysia since independence proves that the country is in good hands when Barisan Nasional (BN) becomes the government, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the excellent work done by BN had won the confidence of business people at home or abroad, to enable the country to continue developing under a progressive economy.

Speaking at a dinner in conjunction with the Chinese new year celebration here Wednesday night, he said BN has very clear and well laid-out plans via the implementation of specific projects with specific goals coupled by the people's confidence.

"You can have all the best plans in the world, but if the people don't have confidence in you, they will not make their investments."

He said Malaysia's success to achieve an overall economic growth rate of 5.6 percent last year as announced by Bank Negara Malaysia Wednesday was due to the increased investments and consumption taking place in the country, which were driven more through private sector's initiatives. Najib said the Malaysian government success in sealing an agreement with Singapore to develop a high speed rail link had also showed the neighbouring country's confidence in their future with Malaysia.

Signing the Integrity Pledge

The Malaysian government is unwavering in its commitment to free and fair elections. Recent reforms by the Election Commission, such as the introduction of indelible ink and postal voting, underline our belief in democratic principles. Today we are making a further commitment to put those principles into practice by agreeing to internationally recognised standards of electoral transparency and fairness. I am proud to sign Transparency International's Election Integrity pledge – and once Barisan Nasional’s general election nominees are announced, I will ensure that all of our candidates honour this agreement too.

The nominees have already gone through a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission screening process, to ensure they meet the high standards of integrity expected by the Malaysian public. Responsibility for fulfilling the pledge lies with its signatories, and it is a responsibility that I and my colleagues in Barisan Nasional take seriously. But it also places a duty on all Malaysians to hold their politicians to account. With an electoral system that is stronger than ever, and a personal commitment from our prospective MPs, it is my hope that the Malaysian people will give us the opportunity to continue our reform agenda.

More Singapore investments coming here, says Najib

JOHOR BARU (Feb 20, 2013): Malaysia will see more investments coming from Singapore following the unveiling of two wellness projects in Medini, Iskandar Malaysia here yesterday, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

"This is just the beginning of ties between the (two) countries. I see significant investments coming from Singapore into Malaysia," he told reporters at the unveiling of Afiniti Medini, an urban wellness centre, and Avira -- a resort wellness centre.

The premier also stressed the importance of Singapore companies relocating to Iskandar Malaysia as well as setting up of new companies and creation of new investments.

His Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong said Malaysia has shown a lot of commitment in Iskandar Malaysia in terms of investment.

"A lot more investments are coming in from Singapore and the region. There are investments coming into Singapore but cannot quite fit into Singapore so they go to Iskandar Malaysia instead.

"There is a spillover effect from Singapore to Iskandar Malaysia," he added.

Earlier in Singapore, Najib and Lee unveiled the design of Marina One -- an integrated development in Marina Bay, Singapore, which is being undertaken by M+S Pte Ltd, a company owned 60:40 by Khazanah Holdings Bhd and Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd.

Singapore Wants Continuity, Stability In Malaysia, Says Lee Hsien Loong

SINGAPORE, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Singapore wants continuity and stability in Malaysia, said its Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Responding to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's view on long term projects to be implemented by the neighbouring countries including the High Speed Rail Link which required continuity and stability on the part of Malaysia, Lee said: "We want continuity and stability too."

Najib had said this in response to a question during a press conference after the four-eyed and bilateral meetings between them in conjunction with the Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat here today.

He was asked as the general election was coming up in Malaysia, how it would impact the projects (undertaken by Malaysia and Singapore.)

When asked to described the bilateral ties going forward whether it would be like the "high speed train", Lee replied:"This is not a sprint."

"It is a marathon, we want a steady pace and long period of time with government and population of both countries. Not just state governments.

"(We have) many projects in Johor but we hope that through exchanges we can strengthen (the ties).

Relating it (bilateral ties) to the Chinese zodiac - the Water Snake, Najib meanwhile said:" The Chinese believe in steady progress.

"We do not want spectacular (progress) or regression. Steady progress is how we resolved the Points of Agreement (POA) and moving in the right trajectory. We are moving in the right way," he added.

Commending the local media, Najib said it was a warm welcome by the Singaporeans when the Straits Times of Singapore published a front page article which encapsulated the mood as exemplified by the "Yee Sang" dish which is most often enjoyed during the Chinese New Year.

"Confidence that we enjoy between our two countries. The settlement of the POA, two years and nine months ago marked a turning point in our bilateral ties.

"The momentous decision to resolve long standing issues has opened the door for us to implement two important iconic projects which we see today - two in Singapore and one in Medini, Iskandar Malaysia reflect the growing ties between our both countries.

It is getting deeper and stronger and moving in the right direction," Najib added.

Wellness Projects Reflect Stronger Malaysia-Singapore Ties, Says Najib

NUSAJAYA, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Afiniti Medini and Avira wellness projects in Medini Iskandar Malaysia will become the iconic landmark projects that will not only benefit Malaysians and Singaporeans but also reflect the growing stronger bilateral ties between the two neighbours, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.

Describing the projects as the beginning of a significant increase in investments from Singapore, Najib said that with the support of the Singapore government, the private sector in the republic would respond positively towards relocating their investments or making new investments in Iskandar Malaysia.

"During our bilateral discussions this morning, we stressed on the importance of the industrial working group to meet on regular basis to encourage investors from Singapore to relocate investment here as well as for new investments to take place here in Iskandar.

"Iskandar has many attractions as you know. The success of Iskandar had exceeded the regional plan and I am confident that with the support of the Singapore government, the private sector will respond very positively," he told a joint media conference with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong after the ground-breaking for the two projects.

Najib to open SJKC Tudan tomorrow while in Miri

MIRI: The official opening of the RM6mil SJKC Tudan here by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tomorrow will re-affirm the ground for the establishment of the school and the practice and promotion of the 1Malaysia concept.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the school was performed on Aug 30, 2001 by the then Deputy Education Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim, and on Jan 3, 2007 it opened its doors.

Despite being a Chinese school, more than half (52%) of its 1,267 students are bumiputras.

“The majority of the bumiputra students are Ibans whose families live in Permyjaya,” the principal, Chong Yuen Kheng, told Bernama yesterday.
Chong who has been the principal since Jan 7, 2009, said the present ethnic composition of the students was unique and the trend would likely to continue due to the booming population in Permyjaya.

“We hope that when the prime minister comes, he would announce a big gift for us,” he said, adding that their wish list included money for a new building.

“We have submitted for approval a proposal to the Education Department to build a three-storey building housing 12 classrooms.”

Najib's visit to Dongzong open house a good start: Liow

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- "It is a good start, we can continue to strengthen the relationship and work hard for the benefit of all in the country," said MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Liow when commenting on the recent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's visit to the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia (Dongzong) Chinese New Year open house said he was very happy that the Prime Minister took the trouble and found time to attend the function.

"That showed Malaysia's multiracial culture, our mutual respect to celebrate the Chinese New Year together," he said, adding that MCA will continue to assist Dongzong and any association that needed their help.

On the issue of MCA not looked upon as the middleman any more since the association can now go straight to the premier, Liow who is also the Health Minister said he did not feel anything wrong with it.

"We are serving the rakyat, it is the same objective," he said. Najib last Sunday became the first prime minister to attend a Chinese New Year celebration organised by Dongzong since it was established 59 years ago, held at Dong Jiao Zong Higher Learning Centre in Kajang.

Transformation is best for us, says PM

STAY THE COURSE: ‘Abrupt changes in govt will affect growth, peace’

PEKAN: THE government’s transformation agenda is a better way to help the people compared with the “reformasi” concept championed by the opposition.

This has been proven by the various forms of assistance and initiatives introduced under the Government

Transformation Programme that have improved the lives of the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the abrupt changes brought about by “reformasi” and revolution would affect the continuity of development and peace in the country.

“If reform involves demonstrations and hurling chairs (during party elections) then it is definitely not good for the people,” he said, adding that history had also shown that the results of a revolution would not necessarily give the people a better tomorrow.

“Through our transformation agenda, the people get various forms of assistance including the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) and cash aid for students while Felda families received RM15,000 each,” he said at the “Goger Sekampung” feast at Bandar Dara, Chini near here yesterday.

Goger is a local term used to describe the chaotic scene during a gotong royong for a feast.

Najib joins thousands at record ‘yee sang’ event

KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of Malaysians made history tossing a 999m-long yee sang along Jalan Bukit Bintang here yesterday.

The yee sang was laid out on several rows of joint tables.

Kelantan people are ready for change, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The people of Kelantan are prepared for change and are ready to vote for Barisan Nasional to have a brighter future, said the Prime Minister.

During a massive gathering at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that the people of Kelantan had endured false promises and lies under the present state government.

Citing the land scandal issue in which the PAS-led Kelantan government had reportedly awarded a plot of state land to DAP after the 2008 general election, Najib said Barisan was prepared to help fight for the people's rights.

“The huge crowd of about 15,000 people of Kelantan origin gathered here today is a clear signal that they want a change.

“If Barisan Nasional is given the mandate during the elections, we will ensure that every inch of the land is returned to the people,” he said during his speech yesterday.

He said about 500,000 people of Kelantan origin had moved out of the state to the city in search of a better future due to the lack of opportunities in the state.

Najib's high income, low taxation economic model very viable

IPOH: The country's annual economic growth record since 2010 is a good indicator for implementing a lower taxation policy.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said he was confident that the high income, low taxation economic model prescribed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's could be achieved as the country's income continued to increase.

"We have been enjoying record growth every year from 2010 and I believe 2013 too, will be another record growth year.

"As the corporate sector revenue increases, individual workers' income will also increase.
"This is when the government would be able to dictate whether to increase or reduce tax," he said when met at the Tambun parliamentary constituency Chinese New Year open house here yesterday.

Ahmad Husni said the government had already started discussions for the policy to reduce personal and corporate tax rates.

"These are the two sectors that we are focusing on currently," he said.

Najib's way wins over Indian voters

THE next general election will see the Indian community playing yet another pivotal role in determining not only the outcome of polls but also their own future.

Having turned their backs on the Barisan Nasional (BN) four years ago, the community is now being courted by both sides of the political divide.

However, various programmes and incentives dolled out for them by the present administration has delighted the community and the Indians now feel that their role in the country's development is finally being recognised.

This point was underscored recently when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak pointed out that the nation was indebted to the Indians, especially for their sacrifices in developing plantations, railway, utility services and public works.

Televised live during the recent Unity Pongal celebrations, Najib's speech provoked subtle smiles and a deep sense of satisfaction among many.

Malaysians may not realise it, but Indians generally feel they have played a big role in developing the country with their hard work in creating plantations out of thick jungles and building roads that cut through hills and forests.

MyDaftar Campaign, A Service To Benefit Thousands - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak described the MyDaftar campaign as a service that benefited thousands of people in the country.

He said the campaign which was launched to resolve the Indian community's documentation problems, had received a special recognition from the United Nations (UN).

"MyDaftar campaign to resolve the Indian community's documentation problem received UN recognition. A service benefiting thousands of people," Najib said in his latest tweet Friday.

Yesterday, the Special Implementation Taskforce on the Indian Community chief coordinator Datuk N. Sivasubramaniam said the UN recognised the campaign as the Barisan Nasional (BN) government's sincere move towards providing proper documentation for those without one.

Najib launched the nationwide MyDaftar campaign in Feb 2011 to assist those among the Indian community who did not have a valid birth certificate, identity card or citizenship.

Kadazan Dusun Murut community urged to give mandate to Najib

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Kadazan Dusun Murut Organisation (KDM Malaysia) president Datuk Peter Anthony has called on Sabahans to give their mandate to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to continue with the government's transformation agenda.

He said since taking over the country's leadership more than four years ago, Najib had been working hard by going to the ground to listen to the people's problems.

"This is the leader that we want, where within a short period many transformation or changes have been done for the people.

"For that reason, I call on the KDM community to be together with the Prime Minister to realise his noble mission to see our country become a developed nation by 2020," he told Bernama here Friday.

Peter was asked on the encouraging response given by the KDM community to Najib's visit to the Beaufort, Papar and Tuaran parliamentary constituencies.

He said it showed that the people of Sabah were solid behind Najib, the architect of the 1Malaysia concept, and because Barisan Nasional had proven capable of looking after the people's interests.

"I see that the majority of the KDM community in Sabah, including in the interior areas, now understand the purpose of the opposition pact's struggle which is merely to achieve their family and personal interests.

"They have no purpose at all to fight for the rights of the Sabah people, compared with BN which has brought development to improve the living standard of the people," he added.

Peter said although there were still some weaknesses in the implementation of development projects, especially rural projects, that could be rectified. - Bernama

KOTA KINABALU: Leaders will come and go but the party that has served them well all these years will stay and continue with its business of running the country, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He carried his message into the hot-beds of Beaufort and Tuaran, where the incumbent MPs have left the Barisan to become Opposition-friendly.

Beaufort MP Datuk Lajim Ukin, an ex-Umno supreme council member and former Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister, and Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Bumburing left the ruling coalition last year.

They have since formed non-governmental organisations aligned to the Opposition and are likely to contest as PKR candidates in the general election.

“The people must not worry about losing their leaders. This is a norm in politics,” Najib told a gathering in Beaufort yesterday.

“What is important is for Malaysians to rally around the party that has served them and the nation well over all these years,” he said, urging the people to continue giving the mandate to Barisan Nasional.

Najib, who is Barisan chief and Umno president, said the party's struggle was more important than that of individuals.

State leaders laud Najib’s BR1M announcement

KUCHING: Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan has described Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as being visionary when the latter announced that the government would continue to give 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) in the coming years.

He said Najib would not consider his vision as fulfilled if the needs of people from all strata of society regardless of race, creed, religion and political affiliation are not taken care of.

To him, the announcement reflects the premier’s concern for the poor, needy, under-privileged and the ordinary people, which should not be construed as a political gimmick.

Mawan, who is also national BN vice-chairman, said this yesterday when countering a statement by State Pakatan Rakyat that Najib was desperate to win the coming general election by fishing for votes using BR1M 3.0 and BR1M 4.0.

“It is his (Najib’s) sustained concern that goes a long way to care for the poor, needy, under-privileged and the small men. He touches the hearts of millions.
