The mobile market comes in the form of a modified 16-tonne bus, which will operate in low-cost housing areas and selected community centres.
A media statement said the PB1M would sell retail goods, controlled items, products of local small and medium entrepreneurs and pre-packed fresh goods at competitive prices.
The target groups are residents in people-friendly housing projects, urban public housing projects, middle and low-income people and victims of natural disasters.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak flagged off the PB1M convoy during a ceremony at Dataran Perdana here yesterday.
Also present were his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and other Cabinet ministers.
Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) senior director for entrepreneur development Ab Razak Ab Majid said the convoy would proceed to Kuala Pahang in Pekan, where the prime minister will launch the Urban Transformation Centre tomorrow.
Fama would collaborate with local councils in coming up with a permanent schedule of the bus route, he added.
He said the bus would be able to serve at three locations daily, bringing along goods valued at about RM20,000.
In a statement after the launch, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the prime minister had proposed an allocation of RM3mil to launch the mobile market.
“For a start, Fama plans to introduce the mobile market to the northern, central and southern zones,” he said. - Bernama
