Najib Hopes KFA And Cardiff City FC Can Strengthen National Football

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hoped that the collaboration between the Kedah Football Association (KFA) and English Premier League's Cardiff City FC could also strengthen the sport on a national scale.

"I hope the collaboration between the Kedah FA and Cardiff City FC will strengthen the sport at the national level," the Prime Minister said on Twitter Saturday.

Two days ago, KFA and Cardiff City FC signed a memorandum of understanding to improve the performance and management of the state football team.

The KFA was represented by its honorary secretary and treasurer Aminuddin Omar while Cardiff City was represented by its director Datuk Lye Ek Seang.

Courteous Taxi Drivers Will Lure More Tourists To Visit Malaysia - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 (Bernama) - Taxi drivers who are courteous and disciplined can become significant contributors to the tourism industry and will lure more foreign tourists to visit Malaysia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said this is in line with the government objective to ensure that the public and tourists enjoy a world class taxi service.

"Excellent taxi service is not only because of the 'beautiful' vehicles. The drivers also need to be 'beautiful' in terms of behaviour and character.

"When carrying passengers, smile and become courteous taxi drivers. Say thank you after getting paid. These are the ingredients of good taxi drivers," he said in his speech at 'Majlis Janji Ditepati - Pemberian Lesen Teksi Individu' here, Thursday.

Also present is the chairman of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.

Reduce Outdoor Activities, Drink Plenty Of Water During Haze, Advises Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib who is concerned with the current haze situation in the country advises the public to reduce outdoor activities and drink lots of water.

The Prime Minister said health should remain the number one priority for everyone, adding that the haze situation in Malaysia was going to worsen in the coming days with winds carrying smoke from hot spots in Sumatra, Indonesia.

"Just yesterday, Melaka reached hazardous levels," he wrote in his Facebook posting.

According to the Department of Environment, the air quality nationwide slightly improved Monday with only four places recording unhealthy levels based on the Air Pollutant Index (API) as compared to six, on Sunday.

The four are Bandaraya Melaka (102); Balok Baru (114) and Indera Mahkota (107) in Kuantan as well as Kemaman (121) in Terengganu.

This morning I had the pleasure of speaking at the Women Deliver conference in Kuala Lumpur. It was a great honour for us to host the event, and an ever greater honour to share the stage with some of the leading lights in women’s advocacy.

Women are at the heart of our society. They deserve the best – in healthcare, in education and in the workplace. So as I walked to the stage to give my speech, I thought about the people who have inspired me with their commitment to improving the lives of women and girls – not just in Malaysia, but in the world. 

People like Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who guards our economic success; Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who has done so much to improve maternal, public and mental health for women

I also thought of my time as Women’s Minister and Education Minister, about the challenges I have faced. In government, our job is to make sure we reach developed nation status without leaving any Malaysians behind. I believe that Malaysia’s future will only be really sustainable if we give our women and girls the best start in life.

Women the pulse of society - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's future will be more secured if women's rights continue to be protected as they are the pulse of society, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

In his latest entry in 1malaysia.com.my blog today, he said the new mandate given by the people in the general election gave him the opportunity to continue to serve women.

"Women are entitled to the best healthcare services, educational and employment opportunities.
"Today, 65 percent of students in higher education institutions in the country are women.

"The rate of maternal mortality in this country is also one of the lowest in the region with only 29 in every 100,000 births compared to 540 in every 100,000 births after independence."

Najib said in the index of the World Economic Forum, Malaysia was ranked among the final quarter.

"The challenge now is to ensure that the success we have achieved in education and healthcare is translated into success in the workplace and society."

He also touched on the Women Deliver Global Conference 2013 in Kuala Lumpur today that was attended by international women activists. -- BERNAMA

Najib joins thousands at record ‘yee sang’ event

KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of Malaysians made history tossing a 999m-long yee sang along Jalan Bukit Bintang here yesterday.

The yee sang, a Chinese New Year delicacy, was prepared by 99 chefs and has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest of its kind in the country, beating last year's record an 880m spread by Mydin Wholesale Emporium.
 
The yee sang was laid out on several rows of joint tables.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, along with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, also took part in the event.

The CNY festival was organised by event planning company Human Voyage, and was also attended by 488 Chinese associations from all over the nation, including 282 temple committees.

The crowd was also entertained by drum performances, 333 lion dancers from various dance troupes and local artistes including Jaclyn Victor, Athena Beh and Shila Amzah.

Najib wishes Happy Federal Territory Day to all

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wished residents of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan a happy Federal Territory Day.

The Prime Minister also hoped sustainable progress could be achieved and enjoyed by the people.

"Happy Federal Territory Day to the people of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

“We want sustainable development to be enjoyed by all," he said in his latest tweet Friday.

Federal Territory Day is celebrated every Feb 1 to mark the formation of Kuala Lumpur as the first Federal Territory and Malaysia's capital city in 1974. - Bernama
