Najib says Sabah will continue to prosper

KOTA KINABALU (Sept 17, 2013): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is confident Sabah will achieve more rapid development and progress within Malaysia in the next 50 years.

Najib, who regarded Sabah as "always close to my heart", said such success can be achieved if the people continue to elect a state government which is the same as the federal government.

"If we are successful for 50 years in bringing Sabah until today, we endeavour that 50 years from now (Sabah) will be greater. This is our promise at this historical celebration which is well received by the people."

He said this in his speech when launching the Malaysia Day and "50 years of Sabah Independence in Malaysia" celebration at Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru, here on Monday night.

"We pledge that we will be together for the next 50 years. Sabah will change in appearance and Malaysia will achieve a developed nation status in seven years and we hope Sabah too will become a developed state," he said.

Najib, who is also finance minister, said although development will take time due to Sabah's huge size, the Barisan Nasional (BN) government will endeavour to look after the wellbeing of the people.

He stressed that the BN government will realise its promise for the people of Sabah who supported the party in the 13th general election.

Earlier, Najib opened the Tanjung Aru Eco-development and launched Bank Negara's commemorative coins in conjunction with the golden jubilee of Malaysia.

Some 50,000 people attended the celebration that featured a special performance and ended with a fireworks display. – Bernama

Najib first leader to act on Sabah's illegal immigrant problem

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is the first leader to take a strong proactive action by setting up the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate the problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, today.

The prime minister was also quick in taking necessary measures to ensure the security and sovereignty of the country were protected following the Lahad Datu incursion in February by establishing the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), he said.

"We see that our call to resolve the issue of illegal immigrants in the state has been heard by the current prime minister. This should have been done a long time ago.

"We also see that since the establishment of the ESSCOM, it has stopped the influx of illegal immigrants into the state," he said,

Pairin, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president, suggested that a regularisation exercise be enforced on immigrants who have secure jobs here as they were also assisting in the development of the state's economy.

However, he said there should be a clear line on who should and should not be included in the electoral roll.

PM: Military camp to be built at Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu

KOTA KINABALU: A military camp is to be built at Felda Sahabat in the east coast Lahad Datu district not far away from the site of the Sulu gunmen intrusion last February.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said this was among the various measures needed to boost Sabah's security that included improving intelligence-gathering networks as well providing sufficient security personnel and deploying the latest technology.

The security boost was among the three priority areas for Sabah, the Prime Minister said at the breaking of fast with state Barisan Nasional component party leaders and members here Saturday.

He said the other thrusts for the state was accelerating development programes especially in rural areas apart from safeguarding the people's welfare and interests.

''In terms of development we realise Sabah has to play a catch up game. We want to see the development gap between the state and peninsula being reduced," Najib added.

''We will give due attention to Sabah and provide the necessary financial allocations within our capacity,'' the Prime Minister said.

Voicing his gratitude to Sabahans for giving the Barisan Nasional 22 of the 25 Parliament seats, Najib said the people had displayed their political maturity.

''Sabahans have shown that it is not simply a matter of changing the government but changing the lives of the people and this is what Barisan has done and will continue to do,'' Najib said.

Solid PM-DPM ties good for Sabah: Musa

KOTA KINABALU (June 17, 2013): The solid partnership between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as strong support from all leaders and the people will ensure Sabah continues to develop and prosper, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

He said the state government and the people of Sabah had also congratulated Najib on his success in leading the Barisan Nasional (BN) to victory in the 13th general election (GE13).

Speaking at a state dinner in conjunction with the opening of the state assembly sitting in Likas near here tonight, he said today's state assembly sitting carried a significant meaning because the BN government was given the trust and mandate by the people to continue to administer and helm the government in Sabah.

The state government, he said, would continue to intensify efforts so that all development plans could be implemented smoothly.

He also called on all government employees to be more focused in carrying out their responsibilities so that all targets and the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that had been set could be achieved.

Sabah voters should retain Najib, says Pairin

PENAMPANG (April 30, 2013): The people of Sabah should retain leaders of great calibre like Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, said Parti Bersatu Sabah president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (pix).

He said the prime minister had initiated the transformation agenda and resolved problems faced by Sabahans, including forming the Royal Commission of Inquiry on Illegal Immigrants.

"He always goes down to the ground to meet the people, hear their grievances, and is willing to accept their suggestions or criticisms.

"Do not let go of this kind of leader. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'," he said at a rally here last night.

Pairin, who is contesting the Keningau parliamentary seat, said Najib had also beefed up the security of Sabah's east coast by setting up the Sabah East Coast Special Security Area (Esscom), deploying more members of the security forces and adding seven more police stations.

Upko president Tan Sri Giluk Bernard Dompok, who is defending the Penampang parliamentary seat, said there was no reason for the people to change the government in favour of the Opposition, which was led by inexperienced and not knowledgeable Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

GE13: Barisan hoping to use disunity among opposition parties to its advantage

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hit the campaign trail in Sabah to shore up support for candidates guarding Barisan Nasional's fixed deposit turf against an onslaught of opposition parties.

Barisan candidates are hoping to pounce on disunity between Pakatan Rakyat and local-based opposition parties to turn more than a dozen grey seats to white by polling day.

Since nomination, catchy slogans for change and autonomy have been dampened by mutiny and fierce infighting among PKR, DAP, PAS and local-based Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and State Reform Party (STAR).

In the past few days of campaigning, a good number of voters appeared confused over which opposition party stood for what slogan and had remarked that if opposition leaders remain at loggerheads, it would be an easy victory for Barisan.

Barisan candidates are capitalising on the Prime Minister's transformation and 1Malaysia mantras and the promise of another round of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia.

GE13: 20% oil royalty will scare off firms, says Najib

BEAUFORT: The Opposition's promise to increase Sabah's oil royalty from the present 5% to 20% would kill off interest in developing the offshore petroleum industry, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said under the current arrangement, petroleum companies were keen to tap into marginal fields that would eventually mean an increase in revenue for Sabah.

“This will not happen with the Opposition's promise of a 20% royalty share for Sabah.

“There will be no incentive for petroleum companies to develop our fields,” he said when launching Yayasan Sabah's roadshow in Kuala Penyu near here.

Najib said although Sabah gets 5% of petroleum revenue now, the state receives more in terms of development funds and numerous special financial allocations from the Federal Government.

At the event, the Prime Minister also launched the 1.2km-long Sitompok Bridge costing about RM59.6mil located just outside of Kuala Penyu town.

The Kuala Penyu state constituency is located within the Beaufort parliamentary seat where PKR's Datuk Lajim Ukin is taking on Barisan Nasional's Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.

Sabah still BN's fixed deposit: Najib

TENOM, April 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, continuing his whirlwind tour of Sabah districts on the second day today, said Sabah was still the Barisan Nasional's (BN) "fixed deposit."

Najib, who is also BN chairman, visited Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Kimanis and Bongawan yesterday.

Bad weather prevented him from flying to Kota Belud but technology saved the day.

He spoke on his telephone to Kota Belud BN candidate Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and his message was amplified for the benefit of the 10,000 people present there.

"Sabah is still the BN's fixed deposit. The 13-member coalition receives overwhelming support, including from people in interior areas," he said.

Najib said the BN government was strong and has the capacity to propel Sabah to greater heights and to balance the development between the state and Peninsular Malaysia.

"Sabah still remains as the BN's fixed deposit. However, if we have a fixed deposit in a bank, once in a while we have to check.

"Yesterday, I went to many places, to Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Kimanis and Bongawan, but I could not make it to Kota Belud, but I was told 10,000 people were waiting for me there.

Kadazan Dusun Murut community urged to give mandate to Najib

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Kadazan Dusun Murut Organisation (KDM Malaysia) president Datuk Peter Anthony has called on Sabahans to give their mandate to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to continue with the government's transformation agenda.

He said since taking over the country's leadership more than four years ago, Najib had been working hard by going to the ground to listen to the people's problems.

"This is the leader that we want, where within a short period many transformation or changes have been done for the people.

"For that reason, I call on the KDM community to be together with the Prime Minister to realise his noble mission to see our country become a developed nation by 2020," he told Bernama here Friday.

Peter was asked on the encouraging response given by the KDM community to Najib's visit to the Beaufort, Papar and Tuaran parliamentary constituencies.

He said it showed that the people of Sabah were solid behind Najib, the architect of the 1Malaysia concept, and because Barisan Nasional had proven capable of looking after the people's interests.

"I see that the majority of the KDM community in Sabah, including in the interior areas, now understand the purpose of the opposition pact's struggle which is merely to achieve their family and personal interests.

"They have no purpose at all to fight for the rights of the Sabah people, compared with BN which has brought development to improve the living standard of the people," he added.

Peter said although there were still some weaknesses in the implementation of development projects, especially rural projects, that could be rectified. - Bernama

BN job fair is back to help grads

PETALING JAYA: The Barisan Nasional Youth Job Fair is back, with additional features to cater for the needs of graduates who are still jobless.

Organising chairman Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin said that the fair would also serve as a platform for youths to obtain clear information about the Government's initiatives to help them in various careers.

He said the fair was being held again due to overwhelming response given to the nationwide event last year and in 2011.

Nazir Hussin said the carnival-like fair would kick off this year in Kedah on Jan 31 before moving on to Terengganu (Feb 22) and Sabah (March 2). The events will be held for two days at each venue.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would grace the events in Kedah and Terengganu.

“The BN Job Fair is not politically motivated,” Nazir Hussin said. “The BN Youth secretariat is taking this responsibility to offer the nation's youths the best chances to build a better future in line with the Government's aims.

“We welcome the support and participation of employers from the government sector, government-linked companies and the corporate sector,” he said, adding that these sectors could also offer skills and training opportunities, entrepreneurship mentoring, counselling and business loans to visitors.
