KUALA TERENGGANU: A vote for PKR will destroy the aqidah while a vote for PAS will only result in disunity among Muslims, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says.

“As for DAP, a vote for them will see Islam being oppressed.

“A vote for Barisan Nasional will mean voting for a far better future for you, the future generation and the country,” he said when launching the Terengganu-level Jelajah Janji Ditepati (Promises Fulfilled) programme.

Najib said the rakyat should vote for Barisan if they wanted Islam and the ummah to remain strong as this would not happen if Pakatan Rakyat came into power.

He also directed criticisms at PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, saying there was no need for him to insult those who accepted Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M).

“It is all right if you do not want to help the people but do not insult or degrade them,” he said in reference to Nik Aziz's remarks that giving cash handouts was like luring farm livestock to animal feed.

(Later, Najib tweeted it was unfair to equate BR1M recipients to animals as the Barisan Government had offered aid to everyone from all walks of life, regardless of their political stance.)

Najib said the Government had taken many measures to help the people because it was concerned about their well-being.

He said the RM500 cash aid would help some families settle their grocery bills.

“As the government of the day, we are required to help the people and we will be committing a sin in the eyes of Islam if we don't carry out our responsibility.

“It takes more than just delivering fiery speeches to uphold Islam and fulfilling religious obligations.”

Despite his packed schedule here, Najib took time to indulge in nasi dagang here.

He stopped by at the hawkers' centre at the bus terminal during his walkabout, where he and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were treated to a breakfast which featured the popular dish.

Earlier, he thrilled traders at the Pasar Payang market when he greeted them.

Trader Robaniah Adawiyah Abdullah, 29, was excited that Najib and Rosmah stopped by her serunding (meat floss) stall.

“I asked them whether they wanted to sample my serunding which is a family recipe and they agreed,” she said.

They went on a short ride in a trishaw and waved at spectators who had lined up along the street to catch a glimpse of them.

Najib was also at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital to visit a former staff member, Abdul Wahab Abdul Latif, 54, who is unwell.

He also chaired a closed-door meeting with Barisan leaders from three divisions Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus before concluding his day-long visit to the state.
