More than 20,000 celebrate Federal Territory Day with Najib



KUALA LUMPUR: About 20,000 people flocked to the football stadium in Bandar Tun Razak here to celebrate the Federal Territory Day with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The arrival of the Prime Minister and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at the stadium yesterday was greeted with cheers of “1Malaysia” from the people and the song 1M4U.

Najib later inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 60 staff members from the enforcement division of Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

The celebration carrying the theme “Solidarity, The Thrust For Federal Territory's Prosperity” began with a colourful field performance by 1,200 youths with the theme Gegaran Wilayah portraying the aspiration of the Federal Territory's new generation, and an air show.

The celebration also included a parade by 8,900 participants from 144 contingents comprising students, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, resident associations, government-linked corporations (GLCs), corporate bodies, tour agencies, sportsmen, and uniformed units.

Also present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa, KL Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers. - Bernama
