Parents were all smiles as Seri Serdang assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Satim Diman handed out the aid to the first batch of parents at SK Taman Desaminium and SMK Taman Desaminium here.
Clerk Norzita Abdul Karim said she planned to surprise her 11-year-old daughter with the money.
“It’s my daughter’s birthday today and she’s been wanting to get a new bag and a pair of shoes.
“I think it would be great if the Government continues this scheme next year as well, especially since the cost of living keeps increasing,” said the mother of three yesterday.
Anthony John, 74, who collected the aid for his granddaughter, said it would help with the children’s schooling expenses.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said on Monday that parents must collect the money on behalf of their children.
An Education Ministry circular states that the RM100 school assistance needs to be distributed by the end of January.
In GEORGE TOWN, students of two schools said they would put the RM100 cash aid given by the Government to good use.
SJK (C) Hu Yew Seah student Pang Chong Wen, 12, said she was happy to receive the aid.
“I will let my parents keep it in my bank so I can use it to buy revision books later”.
Nurul Aisyah Mormmad Asri, 10, said she would let her parents keep the money for her.
A total of 263 students from the school received the cash aid from Komtar Barisan Nasional co-ordinator Loh Chye Teik yesterday. The RM100 cash aid was also given to 817 students of SK Convent Green Lane.
The aid was first announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Budget 2013.
Some five million students are entitled to the aid, which is estimated to cost the Government RM540mil.
