Najib: Vote for Barisan and water problems will be solved

SEMENYIH: Vote Barisan Nasional in and we will solve your water woes, the Prime Minister told the people of Selangor.

“Selangor has many problems, including that of water, which is yet to be resolved. I feel so sad seeing people, more so, the elderly, struggling to carry buckets of waters to their flats, especially on the top floors.

“What if it is 10 floors? The old folks cannot carry them. It is difficult for people to bathe and go about their normal lives,” he said, adding that access to water was the fundamental right of every human being.

“I guarantee that if Barisan were to be given the mandate, we will resolve the water problem as soon as possible. Let us not play politics.

“This is not a political game but about the survival of the people. We must solve the basic needs of the people,” he said to at least 10,000 people at the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) Selangor's “Mesra Bersama Perdana Menteri” gathering at Dataran Tesco here yesterday.

Earlier, the crowd had cheered, clapped and waved the Jalur Gemilang and Barisan flag as Najib, who was given a garland of flowers, greeted the crowd and walked towards the stage.

The Selangor government, Najib said, should stop pointing fingers and realise that the water crisis would worsen by 2014 if nothing was done now to resolve it.

“They are busy pointing fingers, wanting to blame Syabas (Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd) and Barisan. But this is not the way nor is this the time to point fingers at others.

“It is time to resolve the people's water problem. We want to open additional pump stations but they did not give the approval.

“When we want to implement Langat 2 (water treatment plant), they did not give the development order,” he said.
What was happening now, added Najib, was merely a peek as to what would happen in 2014 when a more serious catastrophe could occur, especially in Klang Valley areas like Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, if no steps were taken to resolve the problem.

Selangor's investment and property markets were also affected by the water woes, he pointed out.

Najib urged the people not to be deceived by half-truths and empty promises and to instead return their confidence back to Barisan.

“They (the Opposition) made promises that have yet to be fulfilled. But Barisan is a responsible government.

“We will not promise what we cannot do. We need to retain Barisan for our future and for the future of our children,” he said.
