RM100 aid benefits 45,991 kids in Miri District

MIRI: A total of 45,991 school children from 60 primary and secondary schools in Miri District stand to benefit from the government’s RM100 schooling aid.

Political secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Sebastian Ting said the Ministry of Education only has three days left to complete distribution of the aid nationwide.

“In Miri District, including Sibuti, almost all schools have distributed the aid,” he told The Borneo Post after distributing the aid at SMK St Columba here yesterday.

Ting said the initiative by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was the second time to be given to schools, and that it benefitted five million school children nationwide.

“The assistance is estimated to cost the government about RM540 million. It is meant to help alleviate the financial burden of parents,” he said, adding that the timing was great as the new school year had just started.

Turning his attention to parents, Ting advised them to make good use of the money by buying things such as stationery and books.

“Najib has been so caring and would always take care of the people’s welfare in line with his 1Malaysia slogan of ‘People First, Performance Now’.

“What he promised, he will deliver.”
