Klang Little India spiced up by Najib’s visit

KLANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib’s visit to Little India here today spiced up the atmosphere at the busy shopping haven for Ponggal shoppers and businesses alike.

Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived here  after visiting Pasar Jawa where he had breakfast at Emporium Klang followed by a walkabout at the market.

He had earlier launched the Pongal Festival 2013 or ganised by Selangor BN at Padang Chetti where more than  5,000 people gathered.

The people received packets of rice, flour and spices  together with sugarcanes and RM20 voucher to buy Ponggal  essentials at three provision stores at Little India.

Indians will celebrate Ponggal which is a thanksgiving or  harvest festival today.

During their walkabout in Little India, at Jalan Tengku  Kelana, Najib and his wife dropped in at several shops and  had lunch at Archana Curry House.

People lined the street for a chance to shake hands with  Najib and his wife.

S. Saromani, 60, from Bukit Tinggi nearby said she had  never met Najib and was excited for the chance to shake his  hands and greet him.

A. Letchumanan, 59, said although he had shook hands  with Najib once before, he did not miss the chance to do so  again yesterday.

 “Our Prime Minister has done so much for us and I am  always grateful to him,” he added.

 Meanwhile Archana Curry House owner S. Subramaniam,  53, and his wife, Visalakshi, 51, said they redecorated their  restaurant, turning their dining hall into a ballroom after  being told on Thursday that Najib and is wife will have lunch  there.

They said it was a great honour for them adding that Najib  liked their restaurant and relished their mutton and chicken  `Pirattal’ (dry curry).
