PEKAN, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- In line with current needs, the government would continue to focus on efforts to boost the standard of national education, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

This was because, he noted, mastery of the education and knowledge sectors was the main core in the direction of a nation in the 21st century.

"The empire of a race currently is more focused on mastery of knowledge and education to be more competitive.

"It is not a military mind but an empire of minds which will persevere in the 21st century," he said during a 2012 Primary School Evaluation Test (UPSR) And Lower Secondary Assessment (PMR) Excellence Award ceremony for Pekan.

A total 364 UPSR students obtained 5A's and 100 PMR pupils received 100 per cent A's.

Najib said, what was important was that the roles of parents and community, were seen as contributing factors to the success in national education.

"The education sector is very strategic and important. The success of a nation hinges on the integration of knowledge, skill and innovative and creative thinking," he added.

He said the success of a nation depended on the competitiveness of the people who could develop their talents to contribute something to the nation.

"Anyone with a superior idea can achieve success and be ahead of others, taking heed that the competition in the 21st century is not only academic mastery but one must also be more innovative and creative," he said.
