Maintain Family Spirit During Umno Election - PM

PEKAN, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Umno members must place the principles of family as a strong foundation in the party elections.

The Umno president said through such principles Umno would continue to succeed in facing future challenges.

"We must be united as a family, don't cast aside the family principles. This is our foundation, we will be facing more challenges in the future," he said when speaking at his Aidilfitri Open House, here today.

The branch level Umno meetings recently had been extended until Sept 15 while the divisional delegates meeting and selection of the supreme council members had been scheduled for Oct 19.

Najib, who is also Pekan Umno Division head, fervently hoped the selection at branch and division levels would run smoothly and set examples for others.

Najib, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pekan, thanked voters in the area who continued to back Barisan Nasional in the 13th general election.

He said all pledges in the last general election must be met in the next five years.

"Not all pledges can be fulfilled in a short time because it takes a considerable financial allocation to do so. So, they will be done in stages.

"Those we can afford, will be done as soon as possible. It is hoped all parties can implement them as soon as possible," he added.
