Thousands join Najib in cycling event



PUTRAJAYA: Thousands of Malaysians joined Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his Cabinet ministers to cycle around the administrative capital in the 1Malaysia Patriotic Cycle event here.

Najib, accompanied by Barisan Nasional leaders, completed a 12km route on a bicycle across the Putrajaya Boulevard and around the Putrajaya lake in about 45 minutes yesterday.

“I am thankful, honoured and humbled to have bore this responsibility (as Prime Minister), to offer my service according to the best of my ability.

“Together with the Cabinet and the civil servant teams, we are determined to take Malaysia to greater heights.

“If we are given a mandate for another five years, we will carry on this journey to the very end in Putrajaya,” Najib said in a brief address to the crowd at the finishing line of the event.

He was later presented with a cake to commemorate the fourth anniversary of his term in office as well as a framed photograph of the cyclists set against the backdrop of the Prime Minister's Office complex.

Among those who cycled included Najib's deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, and Putrajaya MP Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor.
