GE13: PM addresses Kota Belud crowd via phone

KOTA BELUD: Bad weather kept Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak from addressing the crowd here. So, he did the next best thing he spoke to them by telephone from Papar.

The Barisan Nasional chairman was supposed to visit the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency as part of his stopover during his two-day visit to Sabah but nature had other plans yesterday.

Najib, who was in Papar earlier, could not make the trip because of bad weather and the helicopter ferrying him could not take off.

Instead, he addressed the crowd via telephone after Kota Belud incumbent Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan called him.

“I am so sorry that I could not be there because the weather was so bad that the helicopter just could not take off.

“I was eager to meet with all of you in Kota Belud, which is a Barisan stronghold,” he said as the crowd cheered.

In Kota Kinabalu, Najib assured the public that Barisan would continue to ensure their safety and the nation's sovereignty.

“We would like to wake up to a peaceful country, hope that our streets are safe and it is safe for our children to play and learn,” he said during an appreciation dinner for security forces serving in Lahad Datu and Semporna.

At the dinner organised by Sabah's Federation of Chinese Associations, he said it was heartwarming to see Malaysians expressing their gratitude to the security forces.
