THE Federation of Chinese Associations in
Malaysia (Huazong) wants Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's administration to
be given a fresh mandate to lead the country to ensure stability and
healthy economic growth.
Huazong Deputy Secretary General-cum-Chairman of the Strategy
Research Committee, Prof Dr Chin Yew Sin, said since Najib took over as
Prime Minister in April 2009, he had made bold and innovative changes to
ensure Malaysia achieved its vision of becoming a developed and
high-income nation by 2020.
He said the significant achievements of the Government Transformation
Programme (GTP) and Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) since its
introduction, reflected the deep commitment of the Barisan Nasional (BN)
administration in achieving the goal.
"We should give them (BN) a chance to continue leading the country as
they have a proven track record and deserve to be given the mandate to
go on implementing all projects under the ETP," he told Bernama.
He said the country was on the last lap to achieving its 2020 vision
with seven years left, and at this crucial juncture, a change of
government was unnecessary.
"I believe a change of government will jeopardise the national vision and urge to voters to vote wisely," he added.
He said the BN government is a pro-business government that
encourages the private sector as the new engine of growth in an effort
to achieve all-round prosperity.
"As Malaysia strives towards becoming a high-income nation under the
ETP, the private sector will finance 92 per cent of investments, while
the government takes up the remaining portion in a move designed to
reduce government spending.
"The move to make the private sector the engine of growth will reduce
government spending which will lead to a reduction in the budget
deficit," Chin added.
Launched in 2010, the ETP is an initiative by the Malaysian
government to turn Malaysia into a high income economy of RM45,000 per
capita by 2020, through 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEA).
By the end of last year, the NKEA had created 313,000 jobs via 72
Entry Point Projects valued at RM179 billion and increased per capita
income to RM30,000.
Chin also said under Najib's administration, the household income of
Malaysians also increased from RM4,300 a few years ago to about RM5,000
now.
"I am confident that under the BN, Malaysia will be the fourth
country in Asia to become a developed nation by 2020, after South Korea,
Japan and Singapore, excluding Taiwan and Hong Kong," added. -Bernama
