GE13: Najib, Muhyiddin express concern over blast at ceramah

KENINGAU: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has expressed concern and regret over Tuesday night's explosion at a Barisan Nasional ceramah in Nibong Tebal.

The Barisan chairman said he had reminded all concerned to campaign responsibly and ethically to avoid tension.

"Such an incident should not have happened and I hope there will be no more recurrences.

"All those concerned must campaign in a healthy manner and practise democracy in the true sense of the word," he said.

He reminded everyone involved in the elections to keep their emotions in check and not let their feelings get the better of them during campaigning.

On Tuesday night, a blast occurred at a Barisan ceramah in Taman Jawi Jaya in Nibong Tebal, where Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Teng Hock Nan was speaking to about 3,000 people.

One party worker was slightly injured, it was reported.

Police said Wednesday the explosion was caused by an IED (improvised explosive device), adding that they found another similar device at the scene.

In JOHOR BARU, Barisan deputy chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has described the bomb attack as a worrying trend during GE13.

He hoped that the police would track down and nab those responsible quickly as he did not want voters to be worried.

"I hope that this is not the start to more problems during the campaign period," he said when met during a meet the people session in Kempas here Wednesday.

On the Umno members who have been sacked after standing as independents, Muhyiddin said that he did not expect this to disrupt Barisan's campaign.

"Only six of them are office-bearers while the rest are mostly members," he added.

Muhyiddin later went around to meet with the local residents together with Barisan's Pulai candidate Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Permas candidate Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
