RM66 mln to bring electricity to Sibuti

MIRI: The Sarawak government has approved a RM66 million allocation to implement electricity supply in Sibuti from 2009 to 2014.

“There are still many other rural areas that need them. The effort to provide electricity is a continuous effort,” Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said during a leader-meet-the-people session at Rh Duat Kalom, Sungai Kelintang, Sibuti on Tuesday.

Awg Tengah cited the example of 58-door longhouse Rh Duat Kalom that was allocated RM1.8 million for its rural electrification project.

A similar amount was given to the longhouse for its clean water supply project.

Such efforts prove that BN has not neglected rural areas in Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given huge allocations to Sarawak in the last four years.

From 2008 to early this year, Sarawak received more than RM32 billion for infrastructure from the federal and state governments.

Within the three-year period of implementation under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA), Najib gave RM1.7 billion to provide rural electricity supply in Sarawak.

A similar amount was given to the state for rural water supply projects and RM2.5 billion for roads.
Such financial support from the federal government enables the state government to implement electricity, water supply and road projects in rural areas.

On the slow provision of basic infrastructure, he asked for understanding from the rural folk, saying they should not doubt BN’s credibility in delivering its promises.

“The federal government has given us huge allocations to support basic infrastructure in rural areas but Sarawak is a huge state. The allocation has to be distributed according to priority.”

Also present were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Sibuti BN incumbent Ahmad Lai Bujang; Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education Rosey Yunus, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and longhouse chief Duat Kalom.
