Families get keys to houses after 12 years

KUALA SELANGOR - About 2,500 families rejoiced yesterday as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak officially handed over keys to their homes in Bandar Alam Perdana, here.
The handover signalled the end of a 12-year wait for the low-cost flat owners, who were dejected when the previous developer had abandoned the project.
Najib said the project had been fraught with obstacles as the Pakatan state government had refused to issue a development order.
"When the state government does not cooperate with the Barisan Nasional government, they are not cooperating with the people.
"Not only did they not allocate funds to revive this project, but they also obstructed the project," he said at the site here yesterday.
However, he added that the Federal Government had allocated RM200 million (S$81 million) for the homes, as well as ensuring that Syarikat Perumahan Negeri Berhad took over and saw the project to completion.

Spotting some "I Love PM" banners in the crowd, Najib said loving the prime minister alone was not enough.
"If you love PM, you must love BN," he said to loud cheers from the home owners.
Maskanah Taib, 50, who had bought a unit in Bandar Alam Perdana in 2001 when she was still single, took a look around her unit with her husband and daughter after receiving the key.
"I will finish paying the bank loan soon. I am happy this project has finally been completed.
"It was abandoned three years after I had bought the place," she said.
Tan Jin Ing, 55, was privileged to receive the mock key from Najib himself on stage.
He said he had never expected the project to be completed after years of waiting.
"I have been renting a place in Meru for about RM500 a month. Now, I finally have my own home."
