Best is yet to come, says Najib

IPOH: SOME 5,000 people, a majority of whom were Chinese, turned up in support of Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the Tow Boh Keong temple here.

Datuk Yeoh Kian Tiek, whose daughter is international artiste Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh, told the crowd during a luncheon with the prime minister and Barisan Nasional chairman that Najib deserved all the support he could get in the 13th General Election.

Yeoh, who is Malaysian Sports and Recreational Club chairman, said: "My daughter, Michelle, has declared that Malaysia is still the best after having travelled all over the world".

Another Chinese leader Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon who described Najib as "the people's prime minister" said in his four years as prime minister, Najib had visited the state 32 times, of which 12 were in the last year alone.

Najib, in his speech during the luncheon attended by mainly representatives from various non-governmental organisations, said moderation was what the power-sharing BN was all about.

Through power-sharing and the moderation philosophy, the government was able to create more wealth and share the prosperity which had benefited all Malay-sians, Najib said.

"Therefore, it is important to bring ourselves to the middle path and moderation is the only way to safeguard our future.

"If you believe in moderation, then support BN.

"The best is yet to come. We have delivered so much but with a strong government, with a strong mandate, we can do even better in the future. I promise you that."

"Our economy grew 5.6 per cent last year, we have almost full employment, our inflation rate is below two per cent and we have created more wealth.

"Bursa Malaysia is just waiting for some good news and market analysts concurred with that.

"If BN gets a strong mandate, we are set to see a fresh economic boom in the country."

Present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

Najib attracted loud cheers from the floor when he introduced himself as "Ah Jib Gor".

Najib said BN was the only viable government because of its capability to deliver for 55 years.

And over the last four years, with the national transformation agenda in place, it had been able to deliver real change and progress.

Unlike BN, Najib said the opposition only managed to fulfil 15 per cent of its election promises.

He urged the people to ponder upon the prospects of a party comprising of people whose philosophy and ideology were extremes.

"Do you think that they can form a viable government? Do you think that they can arrive at common policies?
"The answer is they are not likely able to form a stable and viable government.

"That is why as Malaysians, we must reject any form of extremism. We must reject those who play the racial card because if you support those who play the racial card and extremism, what will happen is that Malaysian society will be more polarised."

The BN government was not a populist government, he said, adding that it "does things for the people and knows how to create wealth for the country".

"There is plenty of wealth in the country. So, if you support BN, all Malaysians will benefit."

He said the temple held significant meaning to him and his family as back in 1964, his late father, Tun Abdul Razak, who was the then former deputy prime minister, had officiated at the opening of the temple.
