GE13: Show of support for BN at Westport

PORT KLANG: More than 60,000 people attended a mammoth gathering with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Westport here in a show of support for Barisan Nasional.

People started making their way to Westport as early as 5pm for the event, leading to massive traffic jams.

Thousands of youths on bikes formed a nearly 10km-long motorcade to welcome Najib at the gathering organised by the Federation of Chinese Descendents of Selangor.

In his speech, the Prime Minister urged Malaysians to reject the Opposition.

He said certain politicians were talking about “ubah” (change) but Malaysians do not want change that will turn a peaceful country to one that is full of conflict and violence.

“Malaysia achieved 5.6% growth last year which is among the highest in the world.

“Do you want to change all the economic success we have achieved?

“I know the answer is certainly no,” he told the crowd.

Also present were Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and international actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh.

Najib said change could come from within through the various transformation programmes implemented by Barisan.

He added that the government had done a lot to help the Chinese community.

Besides allowing the building of SM Chong Hwa in Kuantan, he said 71 Chinese schools had been relocated to new sites.

“We even gave a site which was reserved for the construction of a national school to SJK(C) Sunga Long in Kajang,” he said.

Organising chairman Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan said Malaysians should vote for Barisan as it had proven to be a caring and capable government.

“We must ensure continuity by supporting Najib and Barisan,” he said.

In her speech, Yeoh appealed to Malaysians to support Najib.

“We have a leader here who has done so many good things and will do more.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart that he will remain as the prime minister and I ask all of you to give him a strong mandate,” she said.
