GE13: PM confident of Indian community’s support for BN

KLANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the people, especially the Indian community, will choose Barisan Nasional to continue to govern Malaysia.

He said this view was based on the people's positive feedback to Barisan during the coalition's numerous meet-the-people programmes, which were held across the country for the past several years.

In a speech to a crowd of more than 50,000 people attending an MIC function here yesterday, Najib said the people, especially the Indian community, had shown tremendous support towards him and the party when he met them during public events.

“The Indian community realises that the Opposition had played them out. The Opposition had promised a lot of stuff before 2008 (the last general election), but not everything came true.

“Now, the Opposition has released a copy of their manifesto. What difference is it going to make? It is just another bunch of lies.


“I am sure this time, the Indians are well versed with the Opposition's tactics and will not fall prey again,” he said to a cheering crowd who waved the “I love PM” and “I love BN” flags.

Najib listed out a number of programmes the Barisan had pledged and fulfilled so far, such as the allocation to build Tamil schools and Hindu temples.

He said the Indian community need not worry about any issues in the future if Barisan was given the mandate to govern the country again.

“Since 2008, the Government had allocated RM540mil for Tamil schools and almost 7,000 people with citizenship issues had their problems solved.

“This shows the Government cares for the people and would do anything for them.

“Give us another chance to govern the country so that all of our initiatives would reach the people,” Najib said.

He also slammed the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled Selangor Government for demolishing seven Hindu temples in the state recently.

“Lately, the Opposition destroyed an altar at a home in Sepang. What right do they have?

“I always receive letters from (MIC president Datuk) G. Palanivel asking for more allocation, and I approve them because we know and understand the sentiment of Hindus towards temples,” the prime minister added.

Meanwhile, Palanivel announced that the MIC would donate RM80,000 to the families of the fallen heroes in Lahad Datu.
