KUALA LUMPUR: The Information, Communications and Culture Ministry aims to achieve sales of RM350mil for handicraft this year.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said last year’s RM342mil figure was made through 353 promotional and marketing activities in the country and overseas.
“To
further boost the industry, the ministry will work with the Economic
Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department,” he said in his
speech at launch of the National Craft Day 2013 here yesterday.
Dr Rais also reminded entrepreneurs in the sector to equip themselves with more knowledge to further develop the industry.
He said 500 entrepreneurs took part in the National Craft Day last year, raking in sales of RM24mil.
“We aim to make RM30mil this year with 530 entrepreneurs taking part,’’ he said.
The event, being held at the Craft Complex in Jalan Conlay until March 11, is open from 10am to 10pm.
