Umno members urged to continue supporting Najib

KEMAMAN, June 9 — Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek has urged Umno members to continue supporting Datuk Seri Najib Razak as party president, should there be a contest for the top party post this year.

He said this was because Umno under Najib’s leadership had proven to be the people’s choice as reflected in the party’s haul of 88 parliamentary seats in the 13th general election (GE13), making it the party that commanded the highest support compared to other parties.  

Ahmad Shabery who is also Communications and Multimedia Minister said Umno’s performance in the GE13 was very encouraging in which the 88 seats were very close to the tally of 89 seats won by parties under Pakatan Rakyat.

“Datuk Seri Najib also secured the support of many Urban Malay voters despite claims that the party had lost the favour of the urban Malays,” he told reporters after attending a community function at Felda Neram Satu here today.

Ahmad Shabery who is also Kemaman MP, said Najib was instrumental in the various transformation to the Umno election system, which ensured that democracy continues to thrive in the party. – Bernama
