Najib: RM400m allocation for Sibu-Kapit road, Kanowit-Song bridge

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tonight announced a RM400 million allocation to build a 33km road from Sibu to Kapit, as well as a bridge connecting Kanowit to Song.

This, he said, was done to help the people of the Sarawak interior with accessibility.

The project is expected to be completed within two years.

The prime minister said he had discussed the matter with Works Minister Datuk Fadilah Yusuf.

Najib also announced humanitarian payments of RM1,000 to each of the victims of the Belaga boat crash.

He said the funds will come from the National Security Council as well as the Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia.

As for those who perished in the incident, their families will receive RM5,000.

Najib said the three men who rescued more than 100 people from the Sungai Rajang in the incident will receive RM3,000 each as a reward for their heroism.
