KUALA LUMPUR: The
government practices the concept of "growth with jobs" in expanding its
economy, and this has resulted in the country's low rate of unemployment
which stands at 3.1 per cent.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak
said the rate was lower than that of developed countries as the
unemployment rate in Spain is 26.5 per cent, Italy is 11.6 per cent,
United States at 7.7 per cent, Australia at 5.5 per cent and Japan at
4.2 per cent.
He said there were more than three million jobs that would be created by 2020.
When speaking to 12, 000 people attending the 2013 Workers Assembly at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil, Najib said the strengthening of skills and safeguarding welfare of workers are the two strategies that will lead to to transformation of the country's workforce.
"The one responsibility of the country is to manage the economy efficiently in order to sustain development.
"When this occurs we could achieve our objective in creating job opportunities which could spur the local economy."
