SEPANG, Jan 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced that the new low-cost airport here, dubbed KLIA2, will be launched on June 28, coinciding with the launch date of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in 1998.

The premier said the airport was scheduled to be ready by May, but the operations would not be rushed as there were some teething issues to be solved before its opening.

“We should go through some of the teething problems with the new terminal and once it is ready, then KLIA2 will be fully operational.

“As a target, I have decided that it should coincide with the date of the opening of KLIA. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to open KLIA2 on June 28,” he said.

Najib said this at the launching of a specially designed 1 Malaysia AirAsia aircraft livery to commemorate the start of the 1 Malaysia Integration Programme with AirAsia at the LCCT (Low-Cost Carrier Terminal) here.

Free flights to be given under AirAsia integration programme

SEPANG: One month of free flights between the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak is in the offing as part of the AirAsia 1Malaysia Integration Programme.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who announced this at the launch of the programme here yesterday, also unveiled the AirAsia 1Malaysia aircraft livery at the KLIA Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).

The special livery bore a painting of the different faces in multi-racial Malaysia on the tail of an Airbus A320 aircraft, which will ply routes served by the airline in over 70 destinations.

“Under the programme, AirAsia will offer free flights for one month between Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula. I am delighted to be able to launch this as (part of) AirAsia's contributions to the success of 1Malaysia and I am sure many would never have the chance to come to the peninsula, let alone overseas, if not for this opportunity,” Najib said at the launch yesterday.

Najib announces free flight ticket under 1Malaysia Integration Programme

SEPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced the implementation of the '1Malaysia Integration Programme' together with Air Asia, which sees a free air ticket offer by the airline for routes between Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula for a specific period.

He said he was present to launch the design of the livery for the special 1Malaysia aircraft in conjunction with the integration programme at the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), here this morning because he was attracted to any endeavour to promote national integration and solidarity.
Najib said the initiative taken by Air Asia based on the 1Malaysia concept mooted by him would certainly be able to bring Sabah and Sarawak closer to the peninsula.
"I look at the 1Malaysia concept as a very meaningful idea that can take the nation to the pinnacle of success that we dream of," he said at the event to launch the livery of the special Airbus A320 aircraft at the LCCT.
He said the concept emphasised on the element of inclusiveness in every effort initiated by the government because it realised that the country's potentials could be attained if everyone could move and act as one community, that is, as Malaysians.
