2012 has been recognised as the International Year of Co-operatives by the United Nations. This is an acknowledgement by the international community that co-operatives drive the economy, are resilient to the global economic crisis, respond to social change and are serious, successful businesses creating jobs in all sectors.
Hailing the contribution of cooperatives to the transformation and economic development of Malaysia, the ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism of the Government of Malaysian has awarded the “ MOST PROMISING COOPERATIVE AWARD - 2012” to Shirdi Sai Baba Co-operative of Malaysia during the recent celebration of Cooperatives Recognition Day on 15th July 2012, at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Shirdi Sai Baba Cooperative of Malaysia was chosen from more than ten thousand two hundred cooperatives from across the country for the honour. Its chairman Mr.SP.Kannan and the Secretary Dr.Nanda Gopalan were present to accept the award.
The awarding ceremony was led by the Prime Minister YAB.Datuk Seri Mohd.Najib Tun Razak and Minister for Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism- YB.Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakop.
