Najib’s ‘Mandat 2013’ interview

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Following is the gist of the interview with Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the programme ‘Mandat 2013’ aired on TV3 tonight:
  • A big mandate to the BN from the people is important for the government to realise the vision to turn Malaysia into a developed nation within the next seven years.

  • BN has a good chance of winning a two-thirds majority in the 13th general election (GE13).
  • There are indications that the people are beginning to return to the BN especially in the states administered by the opposition following better support for the coalition and the improved condition of living  compared to the past.

  • Sabah and Sarawak remain as strong fortresses for the BN despite the relentless attacks by the opposition pact.

Translation of transcript of TV3 interview with Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The following is the English translation of the transcript of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's interview with Media Prima News and Editorial Operations executive director Datuk Ahmad A. Talib on TV3's 2013 Mandate programme tonight (May 4).

Question: Welcome to the Mandate Studio, Datuk Seri. I notice that Datuk Seri is busy traversing the country, hardly taking any break. Where do you get your energy from?

PM: Firstly, I have been training myself. I have done workouts at the gym, two or three times a week, I have engaged a trainer because health and physical condition are important to determine our fitness.

However, what is more important is our commitment and determination to do the best because I know I'm shouldering the trust of the people and the country. When I assumed office as the prime minister, I had made a pledge to myself, to the people that I will do my level best.

Question: Datuk Seri looks slim

PM: Thank you. That's what I hope.

Question: Datuk Seri, you have travelled across the country and met hundreds of thousands of people, what actually touches your heart?

PM: Not only the response was very lively. In some places, it was ecstatic, the response was overwhelming. That's what touched my feeling when I saw a large crowd and they greeted me, some of them did not want to let go my hand. So, thank God, it seems the people's response to the BN leadership has reached a confidence level.

Barisan cautiously optimistic over elections, says Najib

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional is cautiously optimistic on its performance in the coming general election, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

However, the Prime Minister said the Barisan is not taking anything for granted.

“We believe the people are with the Government and they feel that their future is more secure with Barisan,” he said during the Conversation with the PM programme aired over TV3 last night.

When asked on when he would call for the elections, Najib said he wanted to show to the people the Government’s achievements through various initiatives under the transformation agenda.

“It does take time (to show results of the various initiatives). I’m pleased that the outcome is positive.

“When we seek fresh mandate from people, we will be going on a very solid track record that we can show to the people that we have delivered to the rakyat,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says he has never worked so hard as he believed "we can do so much and bring Malaysia to greater heights."

Calling on Malaysians to have faith in the Barisan Nasional government to achieve a better future, he said although Malaysia had achieved significant economic growth, the best had yet to come.

"This is a time for us to put our faith in the government with a solid track record, a very clear plan for the future and one that has been able to deliver," he said in the Conversation with the PM programme aired over TV3.

Najib said the people should not gamble away their future by experimenting with an opposition comprising parties with markedly different agendas.
