PUTRAJAYA: Some 1,000 recipients of individual taxi permits will
receive a RM5,000 grant to buy the Proton Exora MPV, Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.
He said all taxi drivers who received the individual permits were obliged to buy that vehicle for use as the taxi.
"This is another commitment of the government to ensure that taxi
drivers can use a suitable vehicle for the convenience and comfort of
passengers," he said at the distribution of individual taxi permits at
the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), here.
At the event, the prime minister handed over individual taxi permits to
200 recipients. The rest of the permits would be given away by the Land
Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
Also present at the event were Information, Communications and Culture
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, who is the patron of the Pertubuhan
Teksi Malaysia, and SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
