Don’t belittle national security as it is the ‘mother of all’ — PM

SERIOUS MATTER: Najib addresses about 5,000 Rela members from throughout Terengganu at the Islamic Civilisation Park.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday reiterated that national security and sovereignty isues should not be taken lightly or belittled although the country is free of enemy threats since achieving independence.

The Prime Minister said without security and peace, Malaysia would not have been able to achieve progress and implement all the development policies for the people.

“Matters on security, sovereignty are most crucial…it is the mother of everything, because without security, it would not be able to implement anything,” he said in a speech at the gathering with Terengganu Rela attended by about 5,000 Rela members from throughout Terengganu at the Islamic Civilisation Park, here yesterday.

Najib said the Lahad Datu incident in Sabah proved that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had never belittled matters on national security although there were groups trying to deny the efforts of the security forces in defending the country from its enemies.

The opposition had not supported the efforts of the security forces who sacrificed their lives in the defence of the nation and had even claimed that what had transpired was a drama by the BN.
